About the workshop:

This half-day workshop will take place at Blue Water Clay, a 6000 sq ft ceramics studio in San Pedro, CA. During the first part of the workshop, Sara will  demonstrate how to center large amounts of clay on the wheel and how to make various ceramic shapes throwing off the hump (tiny pots, spouts, lids, cups, etc.) She will show how to prepare the clay for centering and share many of her tips and tricks. During the  second portion of the workshop, students can try their hand at applying Sara’s techniques.  This hands-on segment is optional for those who would simply prefer to observe.  No experience is required to attend this workshop.

Sara Pilchman was born and raised in Long Beach, CA where she first got her taste of ceramics as a child in the early 90s. As a teen, she attended Idyllwild Arts Academy as an Interdisciplinary Arts major focusing on music and creative writing, but graduated with her love of ceramics reignited. She left for Juniata College, a small liberal arts school with an historical arts program in Central Pennsylvania, graduating with a degree in Museums Studies and Visual Storytelling with secondary emphases in Theater and Philosophy.

Sara returned to Long Beach in 2012, where she worked as an arts educator, exhibitions coordinator, curator, and ceramics studio manager. Sara's business, Sara Pilchman Ceramics, began in 2014 as a dishware and barware company. In 2019, "TinyPots" emerged and has since grown into an international wholesale pottery company.
